Let's Go Fishing Hat

I got some crafting books for Christmas - one of which is Sewing for Boys. I saw this book a bit ago on a blog somewhere and thought it looked interesting - for both boys and girls who have tom-boy tendencies. Now I can look inside the book I'm not disappointed and can see a few projects that I would like to make for both Rory and Frances.

We're off to Gran Canaria in a couple of weeks time to get some winter sun. Rory has already outgrown any sunhats we had so I made one yesterday from the Sewing for Boys book. I made it using an old T-shirt I had from the Knoxville Brewer's Jam back in 2002. Rory's now ready for his trip and maybe to do a bit of fishing with Gramps too.

Finished

For about the first time since I started this sporadic blog I have a backlog of finished projects!

In no particular order:

PJs for Frances. Pattern from Making Children's clothes by Emma Hardy Fabric has been reused from old sewing projects.
Ladybird outfit. Pattern from cute and easy costumes for kids by Emma Hardy. Fabric again reused from old sewing projects.
Waffle socks for Rory.
Chair for Rory. Pattern McCall's 9665. This is the same as the one I previously made for Frances, and again using fabric languishing in my stash.
Socks for Frances

It's nice to feel that I'm being productive.

Artwork

We're starting to get quite a lot of artwork being drawn by Frances - I find it quite fascinating to watch her draw and listen to her narrative as to what she is doing: what colours she is choosing, what she is drawing, when she is adding the eyes etc etc

This is one of my particular favourites at the moment. If I remember correctly it is Totoro or probably a number of Totoros (usely described as Daddy Totoro and Baby Totoro), Mei and Satsuki are probably in there too. Totoro features heavily in her artwork and in her imaginative play (She is Mei, I am Satsuki, David is Daddy Totoro and Rory is Baby Totoro - she has many other characters from various films, TV programmes, books, people she knows etc that we all are - it's often pretty hard to keep up!).

Back

For the first time in over a year I've actually picked my knitting up. I'm quite surprised with myself. While I haven't been knitting I've been busy - first moving (again), and then making one of these:

This is Rory Aloysius, born July 9th. I seem to be the only knitter I know that doesn't go into full on baby knitting mode when pregnant.

So, we're all doing fine. Let's see if the blog keeps going or if it languishes.
